How it works

Stuck? It starts with one good question.

Meam.ai works like a patient tutor beside you. It won't hand over the answer, and it won't leave you stuck either.

  1. Bring the problem

    Type what you're stuck on: a quadratic, a chemistry equation, a thesis statement.

  2. Answer one question at a time

    Meam.ai asks a guiding question or gives a hint, sized so the next step feels doable.

  3. Check your thinking

    Work out the answer, then ask Meam.ai if it's right. It tells you, or points to the step to check. Tap Quiz Me on This to test yourself.

Meam.ai is designed to build understanding, not hand out answers. Here's exactly how it works.

How it teaches

It asks guiding questions and gives hints, one step at a time. It won't give final answers or write essays. Before a reply is shown, the app checks it for a leaked answer and swaps in a question instead.

What parents can see

Chats are saved in the app's history, so a parent can read them there. PIN-protected parent settings add study summaries and a short excerpt of any flagged message. A deleted chat is gone for good, excerpts included.

Controls

Your child can archive chats but not delete them. Deleting chats takes your PIN, so set it up first. For time limits, or to stop the app being deleted, use Apple's Screen Time.

If a student is struggling

If a message shows signs of suicide, self-harm, abuse, exploitation, threats or another crisis, tutoring stops and a screen shows where to get help in Canada, including Kids Help Phone, 9-8-8, 911 and Cybertip.ca.

What Meam.ai won't do

Privacy

Chats stay on the device.

Meam.ai runs its tutor on your device itself. Conversations are processed and stored there, encrypted, and left out of iCloud backups.

Setup
A one-time download the first time you open it, over Wi-Fi or mobile data: about 3.4 GB, or about 5.3 GB on iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro and 18 Pro models, and iPads with 12 GB of memory or more. You need at least 4 GB of free space for it, or at least 6 GB on those devices. After that, it runs entirely on the device, even in airplane mode.
Account
None needed. There's nothing to sign up for, no password to remember, and no profile on a server. Chats stay on the device. Privacy by design.
Price
The first week is free for new subscribers, then $9.99 a month, $49.99 every 6 months or $79.99 a year, in Canadian dollars. One plan covers the whole family through Family Sharing. Plans renew until you cancel.

Will Meam.ai just do my homework for me?

No. It asks guiding questions and gives hints so you work it out yourself. It won't give final answers or write essays.

Does it need Wi-Fi or data?

Only for a few things. The first time you open it, Meam.ai downloads its tutor over Wi-Fi or mobile data: about 3.4 GB, or about 5.3 GB on iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro and 18 Pro models, and iPads with 12 GB of memory or more. After that, tutoring works offline, even in airplane mode. You'll need a connection to buy a plan, get app updates, or for a parent to email us a reported reply. When online, it also checks your plan with the App Store, and checks meam.ai for study notes found to be wrong. Neither check sends your chats. Go online now and then so the app sees that your plan renewed.

Which grades and subjects are covered?

Ontario Grades 7–12, with academic courses in Grade 10 and university courses in Grades 11 and 12:

  • Math: from Grade 7 math through Functions, Advanced Functions, and Calculus and Vectors.
  • English: Grades 7 to 12. In Grades 7 and 8, the course is called Language.
  • Science: Science and Technology in Grades 7 and 8, Science in Grades 9 and 10, then Biology, Chemistry and Physics in Grades 11 and 12.
  • History: Grades 7 and 8, Grade 10 Canadian History, and Grade 12 World History (CHY4U) and Canada: History, Identity and Culture (CHI4U).

Who makes Meam.ai?

I'm Rico Zuniga, a dad in Toronto. I built Meam.ai first for my son in Grade 7. I wanted an AI tutor I could trust with him: one that keeps his chats on his device and helps him think instead of handing him answers. Now I'm sharing it with other parents who value privacy and are open to trying AI in their children's education.

I've built software for over 20 years, including as co-founder and CTO of a tech company that grew to more than 50 people. I've also taught at a university, and co-founded a non-profit that ran tech workshops for thousands of students. I hold a Master of Management in Artificial Intelligence from Queen's University.
